Nigeria’s Super Falcon star and Barcelona FC player, Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the upcoming 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or for the player of the year category. With this nomination, she is now the first female African player to be nominated for Ballon d’Or.

The Super Falcon forward player had earlier won the 2022 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Player of the year on Thursday, July 21, 2022, in Morocco. This made it the fifth time Asisat will bag the award, breaking her own achievement and becoming the first person to win the CAF award five times. She won the award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and now in 2022.

Asisat’s achievement with Barcelona was attributed to her inclusion in the 20-woman shortlist for Ballon d’Or. She and 19 other players were nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.
