Nigerian Afrobeats king Wizkid, and Afrobeats superstar Tems have added another feather to their hat as they cop an award at the recently concluded NAACP Image Awards. The 54th NAACP Image award ceremony was held on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the Civic Auditorium in California. The awards ceremony is set to honour outstanding representations and achievements of people of colour in motion pictures, television, music, and literature during the 2022 calendar year.

The ‘Essence’ superstars were nominated separately in different categories, and they won in their respective categories. Tems was nominated for Outstanding International Song Award, for her rendition of ‘No Woman No Cry’ for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She won the award against Wizkid, Fireboy DML, Chris Brown, Burna Boy and Davido. Wizkid on the other hand won his category due to his contribution to Chris Brown’s ‘Call me every day.’ Wizkid now has four NAACP Image awards to his name. This is yet another win for Afrobeats, and it’s just the beginning.
