Nigeria and South Africa have issued a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the conflict in Sudan.
The two countries also urged for expedited access to humanitarian assistance in the war-torn nation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, made the call in a joint statement released on Saturday.
The ministers met on the sidelines of the African Union Executive Council in Accra, Ghana, to discuss regional and continental matters, including peace and security.
They expressed concern about the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, displaced millions, and destroyed critical infrastructure.
The ministers urged the international community to take concrete steps to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict in an inclusive manner.
The statement also reaffirmed the strong historical bilateral relations between South Africa and Nigeria, with the ministers committing to expand and deepen cooperation in various sectors.
In this regard, the ministers promised to finalise preparations for the upcoming session of the Bi-National Commission, scheduled to take place in South Africa.
