The African film industry is one of the biggest movie businesses in the world.  Between Nollywood and Bollywood, both have made extremely strong stances within the entertainment world.  Although Nollywood’s fortune has been amassed, it is still way behind in the accumulation of awards.  This year, Ghana plans to change that statistic.  With Blitz Bazawule’s directorial debut, “The Burial of Kojo,” the country has earned its first ever entrance into the nominations for a Golden Globe.  The film is currently under review among the other Best Foreign Language Film hopefuls.

On December 9, 2019, the final nomination list will be announced.  If the nominations are in line with the reviews and critical acclaim surrounding “The Burial Of Kojo,” it will surely be included in the nomination list.  The film has received a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and earned rave reviews by the top critic publications in the world.

As “The Burial Of Kojo” continues to wow audiences, it has proved to be a beautiful provocative film that plays with imagery and powerful poetic prose.  The film was acquired by Ava DuVernay’s film company Array, announced in February 2019, and released on Netflix with a simultaneous screening series.  Director Blitz Bazawule highlights his work with DuVernay in the following interview.

To truly understand the symbolism and the imagination behind the film, Bazawule walks us through the incredible picture, below.  The film is available on Netflix.
