Former Marlians Records signee, Lil Smart, has retracted his damning allegations against his ex-boss, Naira Marley. The Nigerian dancer and entertainer, who previously accused the controversial singer of cyberbullying, kidnapping, assault, and robbery, has now made a U-turn, claiming his statements were misconstrued.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Lil Smart clarified that Naira Marley neither abducted, assaulted, nor financially exploited him.
He further admitted that his earlier accusations may have been premature, suggesting that the acts he initially linked to Naira Marley were possibly carried out without the singer’s knowledge.
This dramatic reversal comes just weeks after the Nigerian police confirmed his arrest. In a statement released on the official Nigerian Police Instagram account, authorities revealed that Lil Smart was taken into custody last month at his residence in Mejamogun Estate, Ajah, Lagos. The arrest was reportedly made in response to a petition filed by Naira Marley himself, further complicating the already contentious situation.
Lil Smart’s relationship with Naira Marley has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Once celebrated as a loyal protege of the Marlian boss, his sudden departure from the record label ignited speculation about internal disputes and financial grievances. At the peak of their fallout, he went public with explosive claims, alleging that Naira Marley’s associates had engaged in violent and criminal behavior at his expense.
His most damning accusation? That $300 had been stolen from him, an allegation he now partially dismisses, stating:
“Naira Marley never abducted me, and he didn’t steal my $300. I thought his boys acted on his behalf.”
