AFRICAN SCARIFICATION 

African Scarification is a practice that is still very common among some tribes in Africa. Scarification is the process of making marks on the body. In Africa, these marks can symbolize several things like your tribe, your age, your culture, your role in the society. African scarification is a form of identity among the people. 

This practice is one that is very old, and as mentioned, some tribes still very much practice it. For example, the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria; they make scars on the face of the person, from these scars, you know which town a person is from. 

Scarification is something that is done on both men and women. Some tribe’s scarification extends into the bodies of the individual.
