A quartet of Ugandan poachers have been arrested and are awaiting trial for the disappearance and death of Silverback gorilla Rafiki in the famed Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Rafiki, meaning “friend” in Swahili – was the dominant male in a group of 17-strong gorillas which had become a huge tourist attraction and were known to be comfortable with human contact.
The suspects arrested on June 4, if charged and are found guilty of killing an endangered species will face prison terms and a £4.3 million fine.
