Veteran African music star, Mory Kanté, who played a significant role in championing the cause of African music to the mainstream market with hits such as Yéké Yéké has passed on.
Mory Kanté died, according to reports, at the Hospital in the early hours of Friday 22 May, 2020 in Conakry, Guinea at the age of 70. His son, Balla Kanté made this known to the media.
‘‘His death was as a result of untreated health problems, he said. “He suffered from chronic illnesses and often travelled to France for treatment but that was no longer possible with the coronavirus,” Balla added.
Alpha Condé, The president of Guinea, extended his condolences on the death of the veteran musician via Twitter, stating that Kanté had been exceptional all through his music career.
