Afrobeats – a sound that is here to stay. Hits after hits, albums after albums, this genre has gone viral and is definitely in its prime. Wizkid is that name we can’t overlook when discussing the rise of Afrobeats. He has shown time and time again that he is good at his craft and his music sure traveled without visa. We did not understand the greatness that was about to be released in 2020 and Wizkid made that clear after dropping this magnificent body of work.
The 14-tracked album has songs featuring notable international artistes like Ella Mai, Skepta, and Damian Marley. The album also has hit songs blasting through speakers, giving us the ginger to gyrate and be reckless; songs that made the ladies give a mighty wine with no stress, after a long time.
This album did so well that Wizkid released a deluxe edition with the addition of four new tracks in 2021. The album garnered a lot of certifications and broke a plethora of records. It has recorded 322 million streams on Apple Music, 229 million streams on Spotify, and about 227 million streams on YouTube. It was certified Silver in the UK and its latest feat is certifying Gold in the US after making sales of 500,000 units. It is currently the longest charting African album on the Billboard World Albums, with a record of 90 weeks on the chart. The Fc is looking forward to celebrating 100 weeks on the charts and this again proves the supremacy of Made in Lagos.
