UNDER 17 WOMEN WORLD CUP: NIGERIA CLINCHES THIRD PLACE

The Nigerian U-17 women’s team won bronze at 2022 Under 17 FIFA World Cup in India, on Sunday, October 30, 2022. The flamingos played against Germany for the third-place position after they lost their chance to play in the finals. The Flamingos were on a 3-0 lead courtesy of Opeyemi Ajakaye, Amina Bello, and Etim Eddidiong. However, the Germans equalized before the end of the match by making the match 3-3. The trio of Jella Velt, Paulina Bartz, and Loreen Bender scored the goals for their country.

The game was dragged into penalties after it ended 3-3. Both teams played the penalty shoot-out and ended 3-2 with the flamingoes coming out victorious. This makes Nigeria the second African country to win bronze after Ghana won it in 2012. The flamingos received a warm welcome from their fans and supporter when they brought their medals home. The Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa also gave the team a three million naira reward.
