The Nigerian U-17 women’s team ‘Flamingos’ has qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The Flamingos played against Chile on Monday, October 17, 2022, where they secured a 2-1 victory. The group stage match is the second consecutive win for the Flamingos. The team bounced back after their loss against Germany in their first match of the tournament.
The flamingos were determined to win their match against Chile as it was the second time Nigeria will play against Chile since the 2010 U-17 Women’s World Cup. The flamingos scored their first goal thanks to Blessing Emmanuel, four minutes into the match. Then Bisola Mosaku doubled the goal in the 82nd minute. Chile however did not go down without a fight as they secured a last-minute penalty scored by Tali Rovner.
The flamingos are to face Group A winner USA on Friday, October 21, 2022, to qualify for the semi-finals.
