South African pop sensation Tyla is back with her second solo single of the year, “Is It”, and it’s already sounding like the soundtrack to summer.
“Is It” cleverly subverts its party-ready marketing with surprisingly introspective lyrics. “Is it wrong that I wanna get right/ Wanna get right with you?” she bellows in the chorus with background chanting vocals from the sparkly teaser clip she posted on Instagram earlier this week.
“Is It” is Tyla’s second solo single this year following “Bliss,” which reached No. 11 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 14 on Rhythmic Airplay. She first teased the single at her debut Coachella performance in April, when she also performed the Billboard Global 200 top 10 hit “Show Me Love” alongside fellow South African rapper WizTheMC for the first time. It’s unclear if “Bliss” and “Is It” will be featured on her forthcoming sophomore album that she first teased to Billboard in her Women in Music interview earlier this year.
“I’ve changed a lot in a short amount of time because I was kind of forced to with how fast I had to adapt to everything,” she said at the time. “I don’t think it’s going to be the same energy [as Tyla] at all, especially with what I’ve started making. It’s different, but also still Tyla.”
