South African star, Tyla, has given a nod to Afrobeats at the 2024 MTV EMAs, acknowledging the genre’s impact on global music.
She continued her award-winning streak, having already scooped major awards this season, including beating out Nigerian singers like Asake, Rema, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Tems to win both the Best Afrobeats and Best African Act at the 2024 VMAs.
At the EMAs, Tyla clinched the Best Afrobeats title, surpassing fierce competitors Ayra Starr, DBN Gogo, Diamond Platnumz, and TitoM & Yuppe to secure the Best African Act award.
During her acceptance speech, standing alongside her younger sister, Tyla praised Afrobeats, saying, “Thank you to Afrobeats, It has opened many doors for African music.”
