THE 001 OF AFROBEATS

OBO, 001, 30BG CEO…the names that give the 30 BG gang joy. All these endearments belong to one of the biggest exports of Afrobeats David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido. Davido is a Nigerian-American Afrobeats singer who entered the music industry in 2011 with his debut single ‘Back When’ featuring Naeto C and has managed to remain one of the biggest Afrobeats artists after over a decade of releasing hits after hits. The singer evolved from a young artiste trying out new sounds, to an internationally recognized award-winning artiste.

 The singer is back after a hiatus from social media, and he is set to release his fourth studio album ‘Timeless.’  The internet went crazy after the singer announced his plans to drop a new album which is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023. It is however important to take you down memory lane as we go over his impressive career trajectory.

Davido proved to be hardworking and resilient through the years, and this was evident in his musical style. The singer went on his first music tour, the ‘Aye’ tour in 2014, two years after he rose to stardom. Davido performed in several Nigerian cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Benin, as well as in other African countries such as Kenya and South Africa. The tour was a huge success and helped to solidify Davido’s position as one of the top artists in Africa.

The singer’s career rocketed after he released his hit song ‘Dami Duro’ in 2012. The song was released as the second single off his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo.’ The album topped the charts and introduced Davido to the world as a gifted and spectacular young artist with a unique style.  

In 2019, Davido released his sophomore m album, ‘A Good Time’ which included hit songs such as “Fans Mi” and “The Money.” The album showcased Davido’s versatility and cemented his status as a leading artist in Nigerian and African music. ‘Fans Mi’ introduced Davido to a new audience after he featured American rapper Meek Mill on the hit song.

OBO then released his third and most recent album ‘A Better Time‘ in 2020. The seventeen-track album had international artists like ‘Nicki Minaj,’ ‘Chris Brown,’ ‘Nas,’ and ‘Lil Baby.’ Overall, Davido’s evolution in the music industry is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft. He has proven himself to be a trailblazer and an inspiration to countless aspiring artists in Nigeria and around the world.

Davido has recorded a huge success at selling out both international and local shows. The singer has also added a unique style to his album announcement. In anticipation of the album, the singer teamed up with Spotify to curate a playlist callled ‘Timeless Afro Playlist.’ The playlist includes hits from Afrobeats kings like Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Rema, and classics by Sunny Neji, Fela, and Styl-Plus.

The 30 BG gang can’t wait to listen to the upcoming album, and the singer has also shown gratitude due to the amount of love his project is getting before its release. The singer also announced his upcoming concert ‘A Timeless Night With Davido’ and it’s scheduled to hold in New York, London, and Lagos in April 2023. Davido is on the path to a securing a great year for his music career, and we are here for it.
