SOUTH AFRICA’S HETEROGENEITY

South Africa is known for its ethnic and cultural diversity. The cultures, languages and heritages of South Africa are multiple, diverse, and dynamic. South African culture is a fusion of several cultural influences. 

Some of the prominent cultures of South Africa include the Khoikhoi and San culture, Zulu, Ndebele, Xhosa, and Sotho cultures among other cultures. They also have eleven official languages including English. Most of the South African population speak more than one language. 

South African music is a combination of different musical styles such as jazz, pop, traditional indigenous music, religious choral music,and other forms of popular music from the United States. There is also lifela, a type of music composed by the sotho migrant workers. Dancing is also very common but not peculiar to South Africans as dancing is seen as an outlet.
