NIGERIA’S GOLD IN WOMEN’S WEIGHTLIFTING EVENT 

23 year old Adijat Adenike Olarinoye made her country proud by winning Nigeria’s first medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, setting a new Games’ record of 203kg to win GOLD in the women’s 55kg Weightlifting event.

Olarinoye made a strong first impression by breaking two Games records in the snatch division within the span of ten minutes after lifting 90 and 92 kg, respectively. Although she missed her final effort at 93 kg in the Snatch, she was the only competitor to lift a weight over 90 kg, giving her a 2 kg lead.

In the 55kg women’s weightlifting event, Adija Adenike Olarinoye successfully defended her title while also breaking a games record. In the 55 kg women’s snatch competition, she recorded 93 kg. At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, she brought home Nigeria’s first gold medal.!
