Beyonce finally released her long awaited album titled “Lion King” where she featured many established African Artists.
The Lion King: The Gift, Beyoncé’s “love letter to Africa”, is now available to stream. The album features a plethora of African talent including the likes of Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Moonchild Sanelly, Busiswa, Salatiel, Shatta Wale, Tiwa Savage and several other artists.
After serving us an irrefutably rousing anthem in “Spirit” with South African musician Lebo M, as well as a stunning visual not very long after, Beyoncé has delivered on the rest of the album for a film that, 25 years later, is still one of the biggest cultural phenomena ever.
In an interview with ABC, Beyoncé spoke about what the album means to her saying, “The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa.” She goes on to add that, “I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa. Not just use some of the sounds and do my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic about what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”
Beyoncé also collaborates with fellow American artists Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Jay-Z and Childish Gambino.
While the film itself has already premiered in Hollywood, London and yesterday in Johannesburg, it will be in theaters worldwide as from today. Before you head out to watch the incredible creation of Jon Favreau, listen to all the soundtracks below.
