His wife who is also a veteran actress, Joke Silva on Sunday told TheNEWS and PMNEWS that “her husband is alive and doing just fine”.
Also in August 2022, Joke Silva debunked rumours of her husband’s death.
In a statement on her Instagram story, Silva said that her husband was alive and doing well.
She wrote, “Good day everyone, trust all is going well. The Jacobs Clan would love to inform you that Papa J (Olu Jacobs MFR), is alive and well; enjoying himself as always in the comfort of his home and loved ones.”
Similarly, on Sunday, June 30, Betty Irabor, a Nigerian writer and columnist debunked the rumour on her social media handles, saying, “Olu Jacob is well and alive..pls ignore all rumors of his passing.”
Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs was a highly acclaimed Nigerian actor and film executive, widely regarded as one of the most talented and influential African actors of his time.
Jacobs began his acting career in England, where he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and appeared in various British television shows and series in the 1970s.
He later returned to Nigeria and became a prominent figure in Nollywood, starring in over 120 films and earning numerous accolades, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007.
Jacobs’ health had been declining in recent years due to dementia, a condition that affects memory, thinking, and behavior.
