In a new publication on their website, The Academy announced the invitation of 819 artists and executives as members. The selection of this year’s invitees is slightly different with a larger focus on diversity, representation and inclusion.
The publication reads,”The 2020 class is 45% women, 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49% international from 68 countries. There are 75 Oscar® nominees, including 15 winners, and five recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards.”
Nigeria’s Genevieve Nnaji is on the list of invitees, noted for her work in films, Lionheart and Road to Yesterday. On Twitter, she wrote, “I’m honored to be a member of the family.”
