Ghana’s Vice-President, Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat following Saturday’s presidential election and extended his congratulations to former President John Mahama on his apparent victory.
“The people have voted for change,” Bawumia stated, acknowledging the will of the electorate.
The election took place during one of Ghana’s most severe economic crises in decades, marked by a debt default and widespread financial challenges.
While Bawumia has accepted the outcome based on provisional results, the Electoral Commission has yet to announce the official results.
The election marks a transition of power as President Nana Akufo-Addo steps down after completing the constitutional limit of two terms in office.
