Ghana goes digital with Water ATM card access at Abomosu in the Eastern region

Setting the pace for innovation in Africa, Ghana has become the first country in the African continent to go digital with Water ATM card access located at Abomosu in the Eastern region in Ghana.

It is no longer news that the government of Ghana has installed communal water dispensers to get clean and affordable water to people in poor areas

These water vending machines, known locally as water ATMs, allow people to fill containers with water for a subsidized price, paid for with pre-paid smart cards. With a simple swipe, you can fetch water for as little as half a  (half a US cent) per 5 gallons of water.

In the first photo, a woman is seen operating the machine after which water pours into her container that was just beside the machine.

The second photo has a younger-looking lady standing under the standpipe with her container as water pours into it from the tap.
