Spotify has revealed that Rema’s hit single ‘Baby (Is It A Crime)’ is the most globally streamed Nigerian song for the first half of 2025.
The track, which samples Sade Adu’s 1985 classic of the same title, was released in February as Rema’s first single of the year and has since dominated streaming charts worldwide.
In a statement released on Monday, the music platform shared its top 30 most streamed Nigerian songs for the first six months of 2025, showcasing the continued global rise of Afrobeats and Nigerian artistes.
Davido emerged as the artiste with the most entries on the list, securing nine spots, all from his recently released fifth studio album ‘5ive’.
His collaborations with international stars like Omah Lay, Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, and Shenseea further highlight his global appeal.
Among the chart-topping Afrobeats and pop tracks, Lawrence Oyor’s gospel hit ‘Favour’ stood out as the only gospel song featured.
The track gained massive traction following its release earlier this year.
Speaking about the list, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s head of music, Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the growing influence of Nigerian music.
“This year’s Global Impact List is a testament to the vast range and international appeal of Nigerian music. We’re seeing both seasoned global talents and promising new artists making significant strides,” she said.
“It’s particularly exciting to observe Afrobeats not only dominating but continually evolving, capturing the attention of a global audience. Spotify is proud to be a part of this movement.”
