Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Fireboy has given the Afrobeats industry a chance to be on the global map once again. The award-winning musician has received an RIAA platinum plaque for his hit song ‘Peru,’ which was released on July 21, 2021. The singer earned the plaq ue after the hit song sold over one million units in the United States of America. This is a great feat for the internationally recognized musician, and the news created a buzz online when it hit the internet.
The singer’s latest achievement was announced by EMPIRE, which is the distribution company for Fireboy’s record label YBNL. Fireboy was signed to YBNL in October 2018, and the singer has proven to be a good investment for the record label. The singer evolved from being an unknown artiste to a celebrated international artiste and one of the greatest Afrobeats export in the country.
Fireboy’s music career rocketed after he released his debut album ‘Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps,’ in 2019. The thirteen-track album featured songs like ‘Vibration,’ ‘What If I say,’ ‘Need You,’ and ‘Like I Do,’ which went on to become viral songs and pushed Fireboy into the mainstream. The album amassed over 100 million streams two months after its release, and it also won the award for the Best R&B Album at the 14th Headies awards in 2021. It was no doubt that Fireboy was on the path to greatness.
The singer later released two more albums ‘APOLLO,’ and ‘Playboy,’ in 2020 and 2022 respectively. The 2022 album ‘Playboy’ featured the viral song ‘Peru’ and introduced Fireboy to an international audience. ‘Peru’ dominated the charts after its release and entered the international market, it also got Fireboy a chance to work with Ed Sheeran. The duo worked together on the ‘Peru’ remix, which was released in December 2021.
The remix charted on the UK Official Singles Chart and the Billboard chart. The singer also got to perform the song at the 2022 BET Awards, this feat made Fireboy the first African artiste to perform at the BET main show. Fireboy also performed the song with Ed Sheeran at Wembley stadium to over eighty thousand fans.
Fireboy has shown consistency in the music industry, and fans are looking forward to the artiste reaching new milestones that will further place Afrobeats on the global map.
