The 66th Grammy Awards was held on February 5, 2024, and international and African artists attended the ceremony. The award show gained a lot of attention in Africa this year due to the nomination of some African artists like ‘Asake,’ ‘Davido,’ ‘Tyla,’ ‘Ayra Star,’ and ‘Tems.’ Their fans looked forward to their favourite winning a Grammy as it was a big one for the Afrobeats and Amapiano genre.
However, it was a case of better luck next time as none of the nominated Afrobeats artists won their category. There was however a win for Africa when Tyla was announced as the winner of the ‘Best African Music Performance.’ This is the artist’s first Grammy Award, and fans have taken to their social media accounts to celebrate her win.
While some celebrated their awards, Grammy-award winner Burna Boy was making records. The super-talented artist gave a well-coordinated and spectacular performance on the main stage of the awards ceremony, and he is now the first Nigerian to perform on the Grammy Awards main stage. Burna Boy also holds the record for the most nominated Nigerian act with ten nominations.
We look forward to the 67th Grammy Awards and more wins for African acts.
