Nigerian producer and music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, AKA Don Jazzy, recently revealed that he is still single at 41 because he is an “ashawo.”
This statement was made in response to a tweet from a user accusing him of having many interactions with Instagram “baddies”.
The user with the handle @Ugbede_ wrote, “Once you open any baddies page on instagram, the first thing you’ll see is ‘followed by don jazzy’. That man is everywhere.”
Don Jazzy jokingly agreed by stating, “I be ashawo na. Na why I never marry.”
In the comment section, a fan asked him “But fr [for real] @DONJAZZY why aren’t you married?”, to which he replied, “I dey work on myself so that when my head correct, my babe go enjoy me.”
In an interview in 2021, Don Jazzy disclosed that he had married an American model named Michelle Jackson in 2003 at the age of 20, but they divorced after two years.
He confessed that his devotion to music led to the end of his marriage. The music executive was set to marry Michelle Jackson, a writer and model based in the UK.
“People have been asking me for years when I’m going to get married,” he said. “Well, the truth is, almost 18 years ago, when I was 20, I married my best friend Michelle, and it was beautiful.
“I loved love and I loved being married. Michelle is incredibly beautiful inside and out, with a gentle heart.
“Unfortunately, being young and full of dreams, I messed it up because I was dedicating all my time to my music. Music became the priority instead of my family. We got divorced when I was 22, and it was painful.
“I still love my music deeply and I don’t want to marry again and make the same mistake. So, I’m taking my time.”
