Nigerian Afrobeats singer Davido has been announced as the brand ambassador for the Chinese automobile manufacturing company GAC Motor.
The announcement was made at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria on 22 July. This partnership follows last month’s gifting of a GAC M8 2024 multi-purpose vehicle to Davido and his wife at their traditional wedding by CIG Motors, GAC’s representative in Nigeria.
In 2014, CIG Motors started its operations through a partnership with GAC to manage their distribution network in Nigeria.
As the brand ambassador, Davido will represent GAC Motor in Nigeria and across Africa, using his star power to boost brand awareness.
Comedian-turned-singer Nasboi, who was appointed as the company’s ambassador in June, will also be joining forces with Davido.
“I’m excited for the plans that we have – and it’s going to be big,” Davido said at the Lagos event. “Hopefully we all meet here again in the future and we will have more things to talk about and how the progress has gone throughout this partnership.”
Davido also noted that his naming as brand ambassador aligns perfectly with GAC’s forthcoming youth initiatives, for which he believes he is “the best person to represent.”
The deal adds to Davido’s expanding portfolio of global partnerships, which includes smartphone brand Infinix and gaming platform 1XBET.
Meanwhile, last week, the Lagos State Government announced a new partnership between its IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors to acquire 5 000 new vehicles for the LAGRIDE fleet, investing $260m into the local economy.
Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the arrangement represented a “transportation solution that we are developing to meet all our citizens’ needs to commute safely and comfortably within the metropolis.”
