Grammy-winning Nigerian star Burna Boy has surprised fans with a brand-new track, Update, featuring a nostalgic sample from Soul II Soul’s 1989 hit Back to Life (However Do You Want Me).
The singer, who had not hinted at releasing any new music, announced the song by posting a snippet on Instagram.
The track blends the iconic melody with his signature Afro-fusion sound, delivering confident lyrics in a mix of English and Yoruba:
“On a normal day/ Them no fit touch my energy/ Agba/ A bori ntayin/ If I no get money/ Na disability…”
Accompanied by a vibrant music video, Update also fuels speculation about Burna Boy’s next project. The singer recently hinted that his upcoming album could be titled No Sign of Weakness.
The release comes just a day after he wiped his Instagram feed—where he boasts 17.6 million followers—removing all posts while keeping select Instastories. He also updated his profile pictures across Instagram, X, and YouTube to a black loading icon, further adding to the intrigue.
