Streaming platform Spotify has named Grammy-winning singer, Burna Boy, as its Top Afrobeats Artist of 2025, in a ranking that placed Nigerian stars ahead of others across the globe.

The list, released on Monday, September 29, 2025, showed that Afrobeats remains a Nigerian-dominated genre with five local artistes leading the chart.

According to Spotify, Burna Boy took the number one spot, while Rema and Wizkid followed closely in second and third place.

Asake, who has become one of the fastest-rising acts in the industry, ranked fourth, while Roc Nation’s new signee, Ayra Starr, completed the top five.

Curiously, Davido, often described as one of the “Big 3” of Afrobeats alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid, was not listed among the top five artistes. This omission has already sparked debate among fans on social media.

Spotify also revealed the countries streaming Afrobeats the most in 2025. The United States came first, followed by Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Nigeria.

The report further confirmed Nigeria’s role as the heartbeat of Afrobeats while showing how the genre continues to expand its global reach.
