Six Killed by al-Shabab in Somalia Restaurant attack

In Somalia, a bomb explosion has occurred at a restaurant in the Southern Somalia town of Baidoa and has killed six people.          News making rounds reveal that there has also been a suicide bomb attack close to the port of the capital, Mogadishu, which injured at least seven. Militant group al-Shabab said it was behind both incidents. Recalled that the UN-backed government has been battling against al-Shabab for control of the country for more than a decade. Who are Somalia's al-Shabab? The militants, who are allied to al-Qaeda, said that in Baidoa they were targeting tax collectors, who were holding a meeting at the restaurant, and soldiers. They added that two soldiers died in the attack but officials said the victims were all civilians.

Netflix set to Move $100 million into Black-owned banks

Netflix Inc is set to shift about $100 million to lenders that serve the Black community, making it the largest company yet to pledge cash to historically underfunded financial institutions. According to reports, the online TV giant will start by shifting $25 million into the Black Economic Development Initiative, a new fund that will invest in Black-owned financial institutions serving low-income communities, and $10 million to Hope Credit Union. Going forward, the company will steer 2% of its cash on hand, which currently amounts to about $5 billion, to financial organizations that directly support African-American communities. Netflix’s move, of shifting the huge sum, reportedly  sent shares of Black-owned banks soaring. SHOCKING: Hundreds of elephants found dead in Botswana

Hundreds of Elephants have been reported dead in Botswana, according to BBC reports. While many have described the unusual deaths as  "completely unprecedented", Dr Niall McCann said colleagues in the southern African country had spotted more than 350 elephant carcasses in the Okavango Delta since the start of May. Investigations done reveals that no one knows why the animals are dying, with lab results on samples still weeks away, according to the government. South African Man accused of luring and raping 2 Women

A 29-year-old South African man has been detained in police custody. Allegedly, he used social media to lure two women to his home, where he raped them. The two victims; aged 15 and 22, were raped by the same man - however, on separate occasions. These incidents happened on the 21st and 26th of June respectively, at Vezubuhle near Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga. Consequently, the South African Police carried out an investigation. They concluded that they were dealing with an alleged serial rapist. "The investigation has revealed that the suspect would lure his victims on social media platforms by sending friend requests. British auctioneer sells Igbo sculptures allegedly stolen during Nigerian civil war for N85.6m

A British auctioneer company, Christie, has sold two life-sized wooden sculptures touted to have a Nigerian roots for a sum of N85.6 million ($238,000) in an online auction on Monday, June 29, 2020. It has been made public that the sculptures, labelled "A Couple of Igbo Figures Attributed to The Akwa Master", were sold to an online bidder on Monday despite controversy surrounding how the company gained possession of them. Abuja Airport Installs AI Robots to Scan Passengers, Take Body Temperature

Following the countdown to the resumption of domestic flights by Nigeria’s Aviation industry amid COVID-19 global pandemic, the Namndi Azikiwe International Airport in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja has mounted two robots with artificial intelligence (AI) features to improve the safety of passengers. To further carry out a dry run test to that effect, a demo flight between Abuja and Lagos was conducted on Saturday by the airport as it observed compliance with safety measures put in place to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
