Namibia has concluded plans to begin a trial programme for reopening of its borders. Since the country closed its borders, the Namibian tourism sector has suffered huge losses. From airlines to accommodation establishments, and from tour operators to activity providers, the loss of the tourism dollar has been significant. Namibia attracts a number of international tourists who enjoy the variety of attractions the country has to offer. From desert and dunes, to wildlife and shipwrecks, Namibia has much to offer. Recalled that Namibia has shifted to Level 5 (the lowest level) of its lockdown strategy. South Africa’s foremost grocery and retail company, Shoprite is leaving Nigeria after 15 years of operations in Africa’s most populous nation. It has been revealed that Shoprite is re-evaluating its operating model across Africa, amidst logistic concerns and the novel coronavirus pandemic. The slow down of sales in their respective shops in Nigeria has led to the shut down of the brand. “Following approaches from various potential investors, and in line with our re-evaluation of the group’s operating model, in Nigeria, the Board has decided to initiate a formal process to consider the potential sale of all, or a majority stake, in Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Shoprite International Limited,” the company said in a statement. “As such, Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited may be classified as a discontinued operation when Shoprite reports its results for the year. In what will be described as a recurrent struggle, the Malian opposition has rejected for the third time on Thursday, a compromise aimed at solving the country's political crisis, which has lasted for weeks. The June 5 movement asked for the resignation of president Ibrahim Boubakar Keita and accused his government of responsibility for the current chaos. This followed the meeting of the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS, who urged Keita to create a unity government and that 31 members of parliament resign. "By asking the members of parliament to resign, ECOWAS has failed," said Marcelin Guenguéré, Member of Parliament for the party 'Mali Qui Bouge'. "It's not their place to ask for that. Suspected fellow who murdered Rafiki, Uganda’s rare breed silverback mountain gorilla has been served with a jail term of 11 years. Report says Felix Byamukama pleaded guilty to illegally entering a protected area and killing a gorilla. Byamukama had said the gorilla attacked him and he killed Rafiki in self defence, according to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Mountain gorillas are endangered with just over 1,000 in existence and the UWA said "Rafiki has received justice". Byamukama also pleaded guilty to killing a small antelope, known as a duiker, and a bush pig, as well as being in possession of bush pig and duiker meat.
