Ghana goes digital with Water ATM card access at Abomosu in the Eastern region

Setting the pace for innovation in Africa, Ghana has become the first country in the African continent to go digital with Water ATM card access located at Abomosu in the Eastern region in Ghana. It is no longer news that the government of Ghana has installed communal water dispensers to get clean and affordable water to people in poor areas These water vending machines, known locally as water ATMs, allow people to fill containers with water for a subsidized price, paid for with pre-paid smart cards. With a simple swipe, you can fetch water for as little as half a  (half a US cent) per 5 gallons of water. Locals building cordons to combat oil spillage in Mauritius

Locals in Mauritius have volunteered to build cordons to help elevate the city from the oil spillage on the Island. An MV Wakashio which was carrying 4,000 tonnes of f oil fuel ran aground on a coral reef off the Indian Ocean island on 25 July, spilling the oil into the waters of the neighboring Island. Their actions go against an order from the government asking people to leave the clean-up to local authorities but "People have realised that they need to take things into their hands. We are here to protect our fauna and flora," environmental activist Ashok Subron told AFP news agency.

FRENCH NATIONALS KILLED IN KOURE ATTACK IN NIGER

Six French citizens were killed in the Koure attack in Niger on Saturday morning according to reports. A local guide and the driver attached to the Frenchmen who were said to be aid workers were also killed in the attack as gunmen arrived in a motorcycle, opened fire and killed all eight people. The source of the attack is not confirmed but reports say Jihadist groups are becoming increasingly active in the Country.

Mojisola Odegbami: Nigerian Grandmother Who Featured In Beyonce’s “Black Is King Album” Unprecedented

Mojisola Odegbami, a 69-year-old Nigerian grandmother based in Abeokuta, southwest Nigeria, unprecedentedly featured in two music videos in Beyoncé's highly anticipated "Black Is King" album, which premiered on Disney+ on Friday. Odegbami got showcased in "Bigger" as an African queen, and in "Mood 4 Eva" she was dressed in African attire, including a gele, a traditional head wrap commonly worn in West and Southern Africa. Her journey to being cast in the album began with a medical trip to California in July 2019, where she met Folajomi "FJ" Akinmurele, a young actor, CNN reported. She would drive FJ, son to her daughter's friend to practice but would later be signed by the talent company recruiting for the album casts.

The schedule for submitting candidacy papers to run for October’s presidential election in Cote d’Ivoire ends by midnight. About 36 candidates vying for the Presidential seats in Cote d'Ivoire are expected to be registered by the end of the day for the presidential race, if all applications are submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission.
