Congo Brazzaville’s Jailed Opposition Leader, Jean-Marie Mokoko Back from Treatment

Congo's opposition leader Jean-Marie Michel Mokoko, is finally hale and hearty as he returns to Brazzaville after spending one month in the hospital for treatment. The 73-year-old general, who contested against President Denis Sassou Nguesso in the 2016 polls, was imprisoned for 20 years in 2019 on charges for compromising national security and unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. On July 2, Mokoko was first admitted to a military hospital in Congo due to overall fatigue and loss of appetite. The authorities then allowed him to fly to Ankara on July 30, following weeks of negotiations. A prison source said he would be returned to his cell after being checked by doctors. ‘Hotel Rwanda Protagonis’ Paul Rusesabagina arrested

Paul Rusesabagina, the hero popularly known for good deeds, who saved hundreds of Rwandans during the genocide by sheltering them in the hotel he managed, and saw his story made into the Hollywood film 'Hotel Rwanda', has been arrested on terror related offenses, Rwandan authorities announced. Reports have it that the country's bureau of Investigation said in a Twitter statement that Rusesabagina was now in their custody after being arrested "through international cooperation." It did not indicate which country helped them with the arrest. Rwanda Investigation Bureau also disclosed that an international warrant has been issued for his arrest and he is currently in police custody in Kigali, Rwanda's capital. Lightning strike kills Ten children in Arua, Uganda.

Lightning strike kills ten children while playing football in the north-western Uganda city of Arua after sheltering in a hut during a storm. Killer lightning is common in the East African country during the wet seasons. Uganda's north-western region has recently been hit by severe rainstorms, thunder, and lightning. All the kids had been playing football in a field when the storm hit, revealed police spokeswoman Josephine Angucia. They were still playing when heavy rain forced them to take a break in a nearby grass-thatched structure which was struck by lightning. Nine children, aged 13 to 15, were killed on the spot. The tenth child died from lightning while being taken to a hospital. The three survivors are receiving treatment at the regional hospital.
