Asake tops Spotify as Most Streamed Artiste in Nigeria

Nigerian music star Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has emerged as the most-streamed artiste on Spotify in Nigeria, according to new data released by Spotify as it marks five years of operations in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.

The streaming platform shared the figures on Monday via its official Instagram page while celebrating its growth across the three African countries since launch.

According to the data, Asake tops a list dominated by leading Nigerian artistes, ahead of fellow superstars Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy and Davido.

The ranking shows Afrobeats remains the leading sound in Nigeria, with all five artistes shaping listening habits through hit songs and popular releases in recent years.

Spotify described the milestone as being “powered by you,” crediting listeners for driving the platform’s expansion and music consumption across the region.

“Celebrating 5 years of Spotify in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, powered by you.”

Beyond topping the artiste chart, Asake also recorded strong presence on the most-streamed songs list in Nigeria.

His track “Remember” ranked as the most streamed song in the country, reinforcing his hold on the local audience. Another of his hits, “Lonely at the Top,” also appeared in the top five, showing sustained replay value long after release.

Other songs in Nigeria’s top streaming list include “Dealer” by Ayo Maff featuring Fireboy DML, “Awolowo” by Fido, and “Kese (Dance)” by Wizkid.

The figures show listeners are streaming a blend of street pop, mainstream Afrobeats and dance-ready songs, pointing to Nigeria’s wide range of sounds.

Spotify’s figures also reveal that Nigerian users have created over 25 million playlists in the last five years, far surpassing Kenya’s 9.5 million and Ghana’s 3.7 million within the same period.

The platform further noted that the average Nigerian listener is about 26 years old, slightly younger than Ghana’s average of 27, indicating a youth-driven audience.

His albums have produced multiple chart successes, while songs like “Lonely at the Top” gained viral traction on TikTok and other social platforms, translating into massive streams.
