Anthony Joshua Honors Nigerian Heritage In Family Reunion

Anthony Joshua, British-Nigerian boxing champion, began 2025 on a high note as he continued his heartwarming visit to his roots in Nigeria. Determined to embrace his heritage, the two-time decided to spend quality time in his home town in Ogun State, Nigeria.

The two-time world heavyweight champion touched down in Nigeria in late December 2024, choosing to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in the warmth of his homeland. This visit was a journey to reconnect with his roots and family, and a thoughtful pause to reflect and strategically chart his plans for the future.

On January 5, 2025, Joshua took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a touching moment with his uncle, brother, and cousins. The image, radiating warmth and familial love, resonated deeply with his fans. The image he uploaded revealed a relaxed and intimate gathering that showed his strong connection to his Nigerian heritage.

But Joshua’s visit so far hasn’t been about family alone. During his stay, he had the honour of meeting President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, the Nigerian presidential villa. In their discussions, Joshua reflected on his passion for his homeland, sharing his vision for creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation. “I got to meet His Excellency,” Joshua said during an interview. “They did an amazing job hosting me and my family. I got to see how the country is organized and run, and I have big plans for the future.” To show his love and patriotism, Anthony Joshua presented a boxing glove autographed and personalized for the President, HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Joshua’s trip to Nigeria has been a celebration of his identity and a chance to reconnect with his roots. “The energy is 10/10,” he said when asked about returning to his homeland. “Obviously, we’re here in December, so it’s a big celebration for the Christmas and New Year period, but in general, the energy in Nigeria is good.”

From family gatherings in Ogun State to engaging with Nigeria’s leadership, Anthony Joshua’s visit has revealed that his love for Nigeria remains undiminished.
