AMAZON PRIME DROPS FIRST AFRICAN ORIGINAL MOVIE

The African movie industry has evolved over the years, and we have witnessed a plethora of collaborations between indigenous actors and directors, and international actors. The latest collaboration has birthed Amazon Prime’s first African Original movie, ‘ Gangs Of Lagos.’ The global streaming platform collaborated with Nigerian movie director Jade Osiberu to make this feat possible.

Jade Osiberu is a talented filmmaker who has carved a niche for herself in the movie industry, she is known for cinematic masterpieces such as ‘Sugar Rush,’ ‘Ayinla,’ ‘The Trade,’ and highest grossing movie of 2022 ‘Brotherhood.’ The filmmaker has now added ‘Gangs Of Lagos’ to her list of movies, and it was released on the streaming app ‘Prime Video’ on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Gangs of Lagos is an action-packed movie set in ‘Isale Eko,’ and it captures what life in the community is about. The crime thriller elaborates on the gang life, violence, love, and brotherhood that shape the life of the people of Isale Eko. The story follows the lives of three characters, ‘Oba,’ ‘Gift,’ and ‘Ify,’ and how different circumstances played a role in the trajectory of their lives.

<strong>OBA GIFT AND IFY<strong>

The characters were played by ‘Tobi Bakre (Oba),’ ‘Adesua Etomi-Wellington (Gift),’ and ‘Chike Osebuka (Ify). Other notable actors on the project are ‘Chioma Chukwuka,’ ‘Iyabo Ojo,’ ‘Tayo Faniran,’ ‘Bimbo Ademoye,’ and musician ‘Zlatan’ amongst others. The movie has received positive reviews and streams since its release, and it shows how the work put in by directors and actors is being appreciated.

The premiere of the movie was held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, before the movie was released, and a lot of celebrities attended it. The theme of the premiere was ‘Owanbe Gangster,’ and the attendees brought their A-game.
