The Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) awards for 2022 held on Monday, October 3, at London’s Savoy Hotel. The BMI Film and TV awards is a London-based award show presented annually by Broadcast Music Inc, honoring songwriters, composers, and music publishers in various genres.
The latest edition for 2022 was a big night for the Afrobeats genre artistes like Wizkid, Tems, and Ckay took awards home. The producers were not left out either. Star music producers P2J and Tempoe also won awards for their work on ‘Essence’ and ‘Love Nwantiti’ respectively. Afrobeats global record ‘Essence‘ and smash hit ‘Love Nwantiti’ both received awards for songwriting in the Pop Category. Both the original and remix of ‘Essence’ featuring Justin Beiber got recognition at the awards show.
Afrobeats superstar Tems won the biggest award of the night after she won the Impact prize which is given to a songwriter/producer/composer for their artistry, creative vision, and impact on the future of music.
