‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Earns $100K in Diaspora Opening Weekend

Funke Akindele says her recently released movie ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa‘ has earned $100,000 in cinema revenue in the diaspora in the opening week.

The movie was released in Nigerian cinemas on December 13 and later debuted in 30 countries across six continents on December 20.

In a recent Instagram post, Akindele revealed that the milestone makes ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ the “Nollywood film with the biggest opening weekend outside Africa”.

The filmmaker also expressed gratitude to her cast members, fans, the diasporan community, and “everyone who’s been part of this journey”.

“We did it, guys. $100,000 in diaspora sales and counting, the first Nollywood film to hit this milestone,” she wrote.

“I’m beyond grateful to my incredible cast, the unstoppable Jenifans, my amazing colleagues, the diasporan community and everyone who’s been part of this journey, you’re the real MVPs.

“Your love and support have been the fuel behind this dream. I couldn’t have done this without you. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.”

Since its release in Nigeria, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ has grossed over N500 million, becoming the quickest film to reach this milestone.

The movie is part of the popular Jenifa franchise, which has been entertaining audiences since 2008.

The movie features an ensemble cast, including Layi Wasabi, Nancy Isime, Jackie Appiah, Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Patience Ozokwor, and Stan Nze.
