Annette Addo-Yobo Makes History as First Ghanaian Miss Texas

Annette Addo-Yobo made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to win the Miss Texas pageant on June 27, 2024, at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas.

This remarkable achievement comes with a $20,000 scholarship and the opportunity to represent Texas at the upcoming Miss America pageant.

Addo-Yobo’s personal experience as a sibling to someone on the autism spectrum has driven her to amplify the voices of the autistic community.

She has launched the SPARK Project, an initiative focused on autism safety, awareness, and education. Her goal is to bring these critical issues to the forefront of programming and legislation.

Addo-Yobo took to her Instagram page to express her gratitude and humility as the 87th Miss Texas, acknowledging the historic moment and her desire to continue making history with the Texas community and the Miss Texas class.

Addo-Yobo’s advocacy stems from her family’s experiences with systemic failures in autism support. Her younger brother Andrew, diagnosed at age four, faced significant challenges as an immigrant to the US.

She aims to ensure that legislators, decision-makers, and community members recognize and fight for the autistic community’s needs.

Born in Ghana and raised in Canada and the US, Addo-Yobo holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas (2020).

Her dedication to autism awareness and education will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.
