Ayra Starr, King Sunny Ade saga: Bratty Popstar or Evolved Gen Z?

1 Mins read

This weekend, Afrobeat social media has been chaotic with mixed opinions about 21 year old singer, Ayra Starr.

A viral video shows the Grammy nominated songstress embrace Bose Ogulu (Burna Boy’s mum) as she hurriedly greets the legendary King Sunny Ade with a handshake.

This has lead to a lot of criticism due to the cultural expectation of a Yoruba young lady to give a low curtesy when greeting elders.

Ayra Starr has however since apologised for the incident and explained that the lights had gotten to her.

She’s set to release her new single, Commas soon!

Do you think she made a mistake shaking the hands of King Sunny Ade? Let us know in the comments!
