A big one for Africa as artistes get Grammy nominations

The nomination list for the 2023 Grammy awards was released on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The Grammy awards is a prestigious American award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize “Outstanding Achievement in the music industry” of the United States. Musicians from different continents look forward to the Grammys nomination list year in and year out.

The 2023 nomination list created a buzz online after it was released on social media. Some African artistes were nominated for a few categories, but the nominations that stood out were one for African Giant Burna boy and international sensation Tems. Burna boy’s album ‘Love, Damini’ got nominated under the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category, and he was nominated alongside Beninese-American music icon Angelique Kidjo. Burna boy also got nominated for the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his song ‘Last Last.’ Tems secured a nomination under the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her contribution to Future hit song ‘Wait For You.’
