Internationally recognized Afrobeats king, Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun, has made history as the first Nigerian and African to be certified Gold in the USA. The artistes 2020 album ‘Made In Lagos’ sold over 500,000 units in the USA weeks ago. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced the certification on August 29, 2022, making it the first African album to be certified RIAA Gold.
Wizkid is not new to certifications, and fans hope the artiste gets more to his name with subsequent albums. The ‘Made In Lagos’ popularity can be attributed to the hit song ‘Essence.’ The track was an anthem for Wizkid’s USA fans and it gave the album more audience in that part of the world. This certification is a big win for Wizkid and his fans as they await a new album from the superstar.
