Experts have expressed fears that Africa, Asia and the Middle East could be forced to face a slim harvest as non-seasonal rain have caused new generations of locusts to breed.
An initial infestation of locust in December was expected to help kill the pests but erratic weather conditions have aided their survival.
Swarms have been destroying crops in part of West Africa, India and Pakistan as Ethiopia and Somalia have faced their greatest outbreak in over 25 years.
